DR Congo became the last of the 48 teams confirmed for the tournament, qualifying 52 years after their only previous World Cup appearance (1974, as Zaire). They beat Nigeria on penalties to reach the inter-confederation playoffs and then defeated Jamaica with an extra-time winner. Captain Chancel Mbemba (107 caps), striker Cédric Bakambu (Real Betis), and Newcastle's Yoann Wissa are the key players.
Path to qualification
Qualified by winning the inter-confederation playoff, defeating Jamaica 1-0 in extra time in Guadalajara, Mexico.
